After defeating the French, Piefke wrote this march upon the Prussian Army’s triumphant return to Frankfurt in 1871. After years of neglect, an army band inspector (Prof. Grawert) stumbled upon the manuscript in 1909 and quickly produced his own edition. Both military and civilian Austro-German bands have played it ever since. Besides transposing this to easier keys (C and F concert vs. D-flat/G-flat), I added bugle-like trumpet parts in the trio, using the open tones in F.
