These twelve cocktail morsels represent my newfound passion for gemology and my fascination with jewellery as art. The medium bears a striking—pardon the pun—parallel to classical music, in that its aesthetic value depends as much on what it represents, or creatively evokes, as much as on its physical or literal characteristics. Music is an art of metaphor, its infinite possible interpretations are personal meditations upon ever-shifting kaleidoscopic sounds.
I hope, in these twelve compositions, I can provoke in your own creative imagination the various attributes of each birthstone, and, as lead-sheets, your own unique interpretation—or “cut,” as it were, can bring out the harmonic colours with your own unique balance of sparkle and fire.
A Note On Style:
The interpretation lies squarely on the performer, but I must say that the philosophy underlying these works is neither jazz nor classical, but Third Stream, a synthesis or “meeting place” of the two genres.
Think of each tune as a gemstone in the rough; it is up to you to shape its cut and setting.
