Gia Kancheli was a Georgian composer. He was born in Tbilisi in 1935, but resided in Belgium, until his death back in Georgia in 2019.
After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, Kancheli lived first in Berlin, and from 1995 in Antwerp, where he became composer-in-residence for the Royal Flemish Philharmonic.
He wrote a lot of music for films, but was equally active in many different genres, including jazz.
These two little Miniatures are two of his better-known piano works, and which needed just the tiniest bit of refining, to achieve (hopefully!) the best compromise between the number of different arrangements out there.
