Sigfrid Karg-Elert (1877-1933) was a German composer of considerable fame in the early twentieth century, best known for his compositions for organ and harmonium. “Lobet den Herrn mit Pauken und Zimbeln Schoen” (Praise the Lord with the Drums and Cymbals), opus 101, is marked “Alla Handel.” This neo-baroque style piece is grand and celebratory. If you are looking for a triumphant setting for a festive occasion, give this piece a try. From an arranger's standpoint, this is a challenging piece to orchestrate. I have attempted to stay as faithful to the original score as possible, in as far as dynamics and articulations are concerned. I thought, naively, that I could arrange a version that was somewhat more playable than the vast number of other arrangements that are available today. I have played a few and have never been satisfied. Mine, as it turns out, is just as, if not more, challenging than others. However, as it says on my pizza box, "You've tried the rest, now try the best."
