A beautiful old Spanish Folk Song, from an early 20th century manuscript of my Grandmother's. Composer and lyricist unknown, likely 90 or more years ago. Bars 17-end have been revised as to rhythm and underlay to match as closely as possible my memory of my mother's performance; they should be taken gracefully without rushing. The double-dotted quarters in the accompaniment are not to be taken literally, but to indicate a springiness and freedom in the Habanera rhythm. The Db key follows the original MS; transposition is allowed before printing, but if the spread is too wide, there may be problems in the piano part – see rather the Low Voice version.
