The musical setting of the poem was published in "Choix de chansons, à commencer de Thibaut de Champagne" 1757 by François de Moncrif (1687-1770). It was said to collected and is given as anonymous. With a piano arrangement it was published again by Jean Baptiste Weckerlin in "Echos du temps passé", vol. 1 1855. It was published once more as anonymous by Clarence Dickinson in "Troubadour Songs" 1920 with an English rendition by his wife Helen Dickinson. But the music is found note for note in the famous Harmonious Blacksmith by George Frideric Handel. The Harmonious Blacksmith is the popular name of the final movement, Air and variations, of George Frideric Handel’s Suite No. 5 in E major, HWV 430, for harpsichord. Handel has then the anteriority and is very likely the composer of the tune, unless, of course, he heard it and used it in his Suite No. 5 in E major, for Harpsichord (cf the paragraph on the origin of the music, Wikipedia / The Harmonious Blacksmith).
