After finished the first movement of my symphony I decided to take a short break and compose something of a smaller scale, hence this Piano Quartet. Technically not too tough, but ensemble wise very tricky, with lots of syncopation/hemiola/rhythmic displacement going on. Very dramatic and motivically driven, this first movement is in sonata form.
The attached MP3 is a recording from my 'composition for non-majors' class reading session, performed by my friends Amy (piano), Jonathan (violin), Leslie (viola) and Emma (cello). Since this is a sightreading session there are some intonation and ensemble issues, but it's more musical than scorch playback. :)
