We had our premiere performance on January 31st, 2008. The score includes no drum part, and is written for five-string (electric) bass with a low B. Outside the context of the show, it's a straight ahead jazz waltz, pretty much.
The somewhat eccentric decision to call the opening chord Dm7/Eb triad (rather than EbMa7#11, or just Eb Lydian) reflects the fact that the desired sound and voicing should always have the tones D F A C above the tones Eb G and Bb, in whatever configuration. The popular "close" voicing of, for example, [rh] D-Eb-G, is lovely, but decidedly not the appropriate sound for this tune.
Dedicated with affection and encouragement to my friend Carmen Story.
