Past and Present is a setting of two poems by Thomas Hood for unaccompanied SATB (with some divisi in all parts). The first poem gives its title to the work, and the second is a setting of "Faithless Nellie Gray" which is absolutely full of puns.
The work was written in 1986 for a choir in York.
