The piece is a set of Variation-like episodes based on a ground bass theme which you hear at the start.The music alternates swirling complex string textures with rhythmic and lyrical passages for both the stings and the trumpets. Passacaglia will make an excellent concert item and is a real showpiece for the soloists. String parts are available and a version for trumpets and Piano 4 hands is in preparation.
