This is the tenth of a set of Thomas Moore’s songs. They were for performances in 1999 by Bermuda Chamber Choir in a bower at the famous TOM MOORE TAVERN in Bermuda directed by the Arranger of the previous nine, but this song is original. The choir wore Old English Costume.
Note from ’Thomas Moore’s Bermuda Poems by William E. Zuill: One day, whilst the poet Thonas Moore was staying at ’Walsingham’. Bermuda,(now Tom Moore’s Tavern), one of the Trott girls, knowing two of his failings, curiosity and fear of mice, played a [prank on him. Hiding a mouse in her work basket, she left Moore alone in the room, feeling fairly sure that he would peep into the basket. All went according to plan — Tom opened the baasket, out jumped the mosue, our hero screamed and miss Elizabeth came running back delighted with the success of her trick. Some think ehat it was in revenge for this that Moore wrote these two short untitled verses here set to music for the first time.
