No. 34 in the Parables of Jesus series of pieces for choir and piano. The story that Jesus told about the master going on a journey, leaving his three servants with five, three and one talents of gold respectively. The story tells what they did with them: the first two servants doubled what they had, while the third was afraid and buried the talent, waiting to give it back. The music is adapted from a Charakterstueck by Mendelssohn.
