It feels like there are hundreds of adaptations of the Pachelbel canon. In my opinion, the fascination that comes from the original is based on the one hand on the simple chord progression I-V-VI-III-IV-I-IV-V and on the other hand on the perfect mastery of the counterpoint rules. As a result, Pachelbel's concept of variety in dynamic, melodic and rhythmic terms was able to produce a fascinating effect despite the harmonic limitations.
My arrangement for choir with piano accompaniment has the following goals: 1. Use of popular songs. 2. Singability in terms of tonal range in the consistent key of C major, especially for performance opportunities in schools and amateur choirs. 3. Demonstration of the development potential of the Pachelbel composition in stylistic, harmonic and melodic-rhythmic terms.
The 14 parts of the arrangement, each with 2-3 developments of the chord progression, can be used variably. This means that parts can be omitted or presented in a different order.
