Exact rhythm and counting is important for playing in ensemble. All Suzuki violin students can play Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and D major scale by ear, so this is to help them prepare to read Pachelbel's Canon by using those notes to teach them the main rhythm patterns in Canon. In this way, when it comes to reading notes, students can concentrate on the notes and not so much on the rythm on the written music. Please note that I teach Canon to beginning readers, first by dividing one measure into two by changing a quarter note into a half note.
