original one step higher. Born Imre Kopstein, Kalman was a student at the Budapest Academy of Music at the same time as Bartok and Kodaly. Hitler was fond of his music, knowing that Kalman was Jewish. After rejecting the offer of "honorary Aryan" status, Kalman moved to Paris and on to the USA in 1940. Although this is scored for a 10-piece brass band, alternate parts are included so it can be played by a wide variety of brass bands or brass ensembles of 10 or more players.
