Friedrich von Flotow is best known for his opera "Martha," but he composed a fairly extensive body of work. His style is very much Romantic with references to Weber, Brahms and his other contemporaries. This piece is full of lovely themes and harmonies with idiomatic writing for the instruments. It condenses rather well into the forces employed here.
