In Les Misérables Victor Hugo created the character of Gavroche often singing witty and cheerful songs –the most famous being the last one when he is killed, with the refrain "C’est la faute à Voltaire, C’est la faute à Rousseau" (see Chanson de Gavroche in YouTube and ScoreExchange). Charles Lecocq set to music 2 of Gavroche songs: 1. Où vont les belles filles? (Where are going the beautiful girls?) 2. Quand iront-nous dans la foret? (When shall we go into the forest?) –also known for its refrain "Je n’ai qu’un Dieu, qu’un roi, qu’un liard et qu’une botte" (I have only one God, one King, one penny and one boot).
