Oriental Moods is a piece of music composed between 13th-15th July 2008 - the last remaining week of my job as Head of Music at St Ambrose College, Altrincham Cheshire. The piece was inspired by an 11 year old Chinese boy called Daniel Xu whose unbelievable ability to play the piano amazed me over the one year I taught him and got to know him in class music lessons.
The piece is dedicated to Daniel Xu and contains quite intentional Oriental melodies as a symbol of him. The piece was presented as a farewell present to all the piano players in the school as a memory of the musical and cultural opportunities I introduced them to during my time there.
