This version of the theme from the finale of Beethoven's 9th (The Choral) Symphony is intended for a bassoonist (or cellist) of about grade 6 level.It could form an encore, particularly if the occasion were to be a European one. The melody acts as anthem for the European Union. It expresses a plea, as per Schiller's words in the Choral Symphony, for freedom and friendship. The composer will donate all proceeds from this piece and from his simple violin & piano arrangement, also published on SibeliusMusic, to Amnesty International.
