This is a descant for the last verse of Johann Cruger's hymn tune "Nun danket alle Gott". The harmony is mostly by Mendelssohn. This hymn tune is sung to Martin Rinkart's words, translated by Catherine Winkworth as "Now thank we all our God". Cruger's tune and Rinkart's words have been linked ever since 1647, when they were published in Cruger's "Praxis Pietatis Melica"
