This solo piece was composed with my clarinettist brother, Pete, in mind. There are a couple of private jokes such as the incorporation of the Blues and whole tone scales. The first is a reference to Pete's abiding love of the Blues and the second to his passion for Thelonious Monk whose trademark 'motif' was the whole tone scale.
It should be played expressively with a tang of jazz lightness applied during the more atonal sections.
