You are purchasing high quality sheet music PDF files suitable for printing or viewing on digital devices. This is a much revised reprint of a setting of ’New Prince, New Pompe’, by the Catholic poet and martyr Robert Southwell (d.1595), which I originally wrote for Theo Saunders Esq FRCO, and the School Choir of Exeter Cathedral School in 1984. (The original was published by Westerleigh Publications, Lustleigh, S. Devon, UK, but is now out of print, and the present revised edition appears with permission.)
There are three verses in four-part harmony (unaccompanied), with the fourth verse set as a Descant, with unison voices and organ (or piano) accompaniment.
When a keyboard is not available, however, or when performers prefer it, the entire piece may be performed unaccompanied by singing the fourth verse either: 1) to the same SATB music as used for vv. 1-3; or 2) to the new, five-part setting for voices incorporating the soprano Descant with the main tune in the Tenor.
[Please note that the MP3 recording which accompanies this score on the website does NOT include the five-part verse setting.]
