Imagine this played by a jazz trio of saxophone, bass guitar/vocals/trumpet fanfare and congas (with 50,000 Egyptian pyramid builders coming along for the ride….)
Anyway, this iconoclastic grand opera in miniature based on the adventures of Tutankamen the YTS Pharoah was doomed to failure as the percussionist had too many gigs with a fashionable marching samba band.
I resurrected the theme for concert band tonight, having obsessed about trombone slides for ages!!! Originally it was played on tenor sax, I thought the lower register should very definitely have the glory - and having played bass in a concert band it would make a change from the treble woodwind getting all the fun!
