This piece was written for the church choir that I direct and is being used in an Easter program. It is based on the transfiguration of Jesus. It begins with a simple narration in homophonic style. When the lyrics start talking directly about God, the music becomes slightly more contrapuntal. The last section in which God says, "This is my beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased." is set in the form of a four voice canon. Transpositions of the theme and sparse counterpoint fills out the harmonies in this section. The third repetition of the phrase is homophonic and creates a triumphant finishing touch.
