Mr Farriner's Ball is based on the old round London's Burning. Its title derives from the fact that Mr Farriner owned the baker's shop where the Great Fire of London started in 1666.
The audience will recognise themes which the baker's friends (anachronistically) dance to, as well as a couple of tunes of London origin.
The whole piece is lighthearted and aims to gives players of very modest skill a bit of musical fun.
It was written for the Intermediate Learning Orchestra of London, who gave the first performance on 9 December 2009, conducted by David Evans.
