The early American hymn melody "Morning Song" has been attributed to Elkanah Kelsey Dare (1782-1826). This tune exists in 86.86 (Common Meter) and in 86.86.86, where the second half of the tune is repeated. The present hymn (also known as "Consolation") is in 86.86 meter. The words were written by the Scottish hymnist John Brownlie (1857-1925).
