A suite in four movements for clarinet and piano.

(Forces: cl, p)

This suite was written as an accessible suite in four movements themed around space and the moon. This third movement ‘nebula’, was first performed, as an encore by Dylan and Samantha Christopher in a charity concert raising money for Cancer Research UK.

The music is programmatic with each lyrical movement representing an aspect of the moon and space-scape. The first movement, ‘Prelude’ is an introduction, the repeating ostinato evoking the sparkling of stars.

A nocturne, ‘Selenic’ is a melancholy and lyrical song, sorrowfully sung while looking at the moon. This is immediately contrasted by the dreamy ‘Nebula’, a meditation, looking past the moon. The sparse scoring symbolic of the emptiness of space. Lastly, we have ‘Nova’, an optimistic lullaby.
