The Mass is designed to be sung during the communion service and as such I have chosen to set the words in a manner suitable for service rather than concert use. This will result in a Mass which is shorter than a concert version (such as Bach’s Bm or Beethoven’s Cmaj) and worthy of the title ’Missa Brevis’. I am dedicating the Missa Brevis to the choir and clergy at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. Being a regular attendee of their Evensong services, I am always amazed at the quality of music and the dedication shown. The Missa Brevis was inspired by what I have heard at such services and the wonderful acoustic of St. George’s.
