Feature your flute player with this well-known solo from Bizet’s l’Arlesienne Suite #2. Bizet wrote the opera in 1872 and this piece was extracted as part of the second suite compiled by Ernest Guiraud after the composer’s death in 1880.
The languid flute solo drifts over the other wind parts for the opening and closing of the work with countermelodies from the horn and clarinet. The more energetic mid-section provides a contrast. Extreme care must be taken with dynamics to achieve the balance desired.
