from book 2 of the Preludes for piano. This work was likely inspired by Debussy’s attendance at an American minstrel show while he was in England. Original French tempo indications are retained in the score, as well as the arranger’s metronome suggestions and standard Italian tempo terms (which are also in the parts). Suggestions: a. Trombones could do glisses between notes in measures 37-38. b. The tambourine parts could be played by a side/snare drum. [Debussy’s instruction to the pianist is "Quasi Tambouro".]
