I submitted it to the 2007 Adagio Composition Contest of the Fauxharmonic Orchestra, but, alas, it did not even make it to a honorific mention much less become one of the three finalists among 166 entries received, of which nearly all were impressive works that deserve to be recognized. The challenge was: Who will be the next Master of Melancholy? Has anyone composed an adagio for string orchestra that can rival Samuel Barbers in sadness? Piotr Szewczyk, for example, who lives in my area, in Miami Beach, Florida, got a honorific mention with his composition The Angels of Solace. His was one of the twenty pieces that stood out in particular for its outstanding quality and emotional power.
