Music composed for the coronation of Charles II, This suite of six movements is marvellously ahead of its time in places. The rich textures sound just as good on clarinet as on brass, though things work best if you can find a bass clarinet to play the bottom part. There is an alternative Eb Alto Clarinet part 4. When we perfomed this, we played at the beginning of a concert from a balcony. If you have spare cathedral near you, that would be the place to do it. A nice local connection, Matthew Locke was a boy chorister at Exeter Cathedral, and his name remains carved in the choir stalls as graffitti.
