CHORALE CANTATA THE NATIVITY OF OUR LORD
In Two Parts
Text: William Drummond (1585-1649)
Music: Gerald Manning
There is somewhat of Heaven, writes Richard Baxter, in Holy Poetry: it charmeth souls into loving harmony and concord: and there is little reason to doubt that this is true, with but few exceptions, of the sacred lyrics of all ages, whatever may have been the special religious tenets of the poets who composed them. In this sacred poem by William Drummond lines such as these offer divine sustenance and spiritual power inspired by the quickening spirit of truth and sanctity, of that holy peace that fills the air of the calm solitudes the poet loved so well.
