The programmatic nature of this piece of music gives rise to a picture or emotions thereof, of the golden age of steam locomotive engines. By painting an image of majestic grace, power, strength and energy the locomotive escorts the listener through an imaginary short train ride. From start to finish the music defines the nature of such awe-inspiring engineering. The programmatic form of this short piece takes the listener on a journey. Beginning by defining the majestic grace and sheer size of these locomotives, the listener is then whisked along the tracks, through a tunnel (fig 64), and then out the other side (fig. 89), before finally coming to an awkward halt at the next stop. The way I imagine this is as if we follow the locomotive in the air-not going through the tunnel-but watching as the train disappears and reappears not loosing any energy and drive along the way. Have Fun!!
