A poem by the young 22-year old Leconte de Lisle in "Premières poésies & lettres intimes", LXI, 1840 (Publ. 1902). This poem has also been set to music by Marguerite Labori in 1905. Translation (AJ):

1. My wealth, it’s the foliage Silvered by the morning tears, It’s the beautiful evening in the valley Gilding the azure of a serene sky;

2. My wealth, it’s the water that sings In the cool shelter of blue lilac trees; It’s the bird whose voice enchants And who gets scared at the sound of foot-steps.

3. But more than the light leaf, More than the morning scents, More than the passing flame Of the evening shining in a serene sky,

4. More than the rest on the moss, More than the harmonious songs, My wealth, it’s your sweet voice, It’s your gaze, ray of heaven!
