This is a responsorial psalm written especially for Ash Wednesday services, also good for Lent in general and penance services. It really has a sorry, guilty, feel doesn't it? I noticed contemporary Catholic music is kinda lacking in what most people associate with Catholicism–guilt! The constant 2-note bass pattern might literally sound like a heartbeat, but I was thinking more about the gesture of beating the breast (mea culpa….)
