Long Road to Georgia is a simple trad jazz tune, written at a time when I felt a longing to be back home (which isn't Georgia, that just had a better ring to it than my actual home).
Do check out the recording for a mock-up rendition. The strings are improvised and aren't necessary, but make the song sound a bit sweeter. The last play-through of the tune in the recording is done with other instruments improvising around the tune for a proper Dixieland feel. I wholeheartedly recommend this - it adds so much to the overall feel if you've got other instruments noodling around. The slow, simple chord progression makes this a really good tune for people who are newer to jazz & improvisation.
