’Christmas Quest’ is a musical play for children in Junior School. It tells the story of Hilary, a ten year old girl who is bored with all the traditions of Christmas except one; getting presents. However, she undergoes a change of mind as the origins of Christmas Trees, Mistletoe etc are presented to her in dramatic form while she is dreaming. Here, the evil Loki wishes to harm Balder son of Odin, but the king of the gods has extracted a promise from all living things that they will not hurt the young god. All except the Mistletoe… Loki tricks Balder’s brother, the blind Hoder into using a spear made of mistletoe which kills Balder.Frigga, Balder’s mother then pronounces that henceforth the Mistletoe, having done its worst, shall be a symbol of peace and love.
