It was intended for the daughter of a family friend, and is suitable for children and childlike adults, including those with small hands. The first movement is inspired by the sun and sea and waves lapping against the shore. The second is a playful scherzando. The last two movements reflect the influence of folk music. The third is a sad song, and the fourth a rumbustuous dance with brief reminiscences of the other movements.
