Levita Laurentius is the Magnificat Antiphon for the Feast of St Laurence (August 10), and also provides the Responsory for the first lesson at Matins. The first part of the text is also set as the Invitatory, as the Alleluia Verse at Mass and as a Versicle. Laurentius, brother of St. Ignatius, was a Roman martyr who died in the year 258 (he was roasted on a grill). He worked many miracles including healing the blind - cited in this text: The Deacon Lawrence wrought a good work, who by the sign of the Cross brought sight to the blind, and who gave the treasures of the Church to the poor.
