The first of Vivaldi’s "Four Seasons" Concerti, Op. 8. The intention was to arrange this for standard string quartet; however, as with Pachelbel’s Canon, it is much more easily played with a third violin rather than with a viola. Both lie better under the fingers for the third part if the original instrument and range are kept. Lowering portions an octave affect both the sound of the overall piece and the lie of the fingers, making it less comfortable on the viola. This arrangement was made because it was specifically requested for an upcoming wedding.
