Again the prime motive from the opening movement wanders in and out of the text: in the first phrase, then reappearing with the Soprano/Baritone duet, and finally in the last 8 bars, where the chorus restates the theme in its entirety (handed off from the Sopranos to the Basses.)Throughout the seven sonnets, I often employ what I call "hidden polyphony": the sound is homophonic, for the sake of clarity of the text, but the vocal parts are still moving vertically, each voice with a unique melodic line. The accompanying MP3 is performed by Circle Singers www.circlesingers.org (I sing the baritone solo here, though I usually sing tenor.)
