German composer, pianist and organist Sigfrid Karg-Elert (b. Oberndorf-on-Neckar, Nov.21, 1877-d. Leipzig, April 9, 1933), composed Sixty-six Chorale Improvisations between 1908-10 two of which, O God, Thou Faithful God, Op.65, No. 50, and O World I Een Must Leave Thee', Op. 65, No. 21 are arranged here for String Quartet. They are among the most significant works of their kind with Debussian harmonic influences and are Romantically impressionistic. It is interesting to note, and this will not have escaped the notice of scholars that in O World I Een Must Leave Thee the score uses two simultaneous time signatures with the same bar-length.
