This arrangement is a transcription of my 2016 recording of the classic Isaac Watts Christmas carol "Joy to the World" (hymn tune "Antioch", which is attributed to Handel with arrangement/adaptation by Lowell Mason, but the authorship is somewhat disputed).
This jazz-flavored arrangement generally increases in difficulty with each verse. In my recording of the piece, I slightly decreased tempo with each verse, which both adds drama and makes things a bit easier to play! The 16th-note runs in the final verse will be a challenge for some students, but they sound more difficult than they really are. The runs are primarily either straight chord arpeggios or scales, so with some practice intermediate-level players should be able to execute these confidently at a reasonably-fast tempo.
The piece should work well as a performance piece, as an Advent season service prelude, or as a musical reflection at any point in a service.
