Sir John Stainer (6 June 1840 – 31 March 1901) was an English composer and organist. Although not frequently performed today, his music was very popular during his lifetime. His notable work, "The Crucifixion," is still heard during Passiontide in some Anglican churches. Stainer's contributions to church music and his academic achievements, particularly in the study of Medieval and Renaissance music, are highly regarded.
