Jerusalem Was Troubled (SATB hymn) Epiphany
Instant download
You are purchasing high quality sheet music PDF files suitable for printing or viewing on digital devices. This hymn is about the least popular element of the Advent/Christmas/Epiphany narrative: Herod’s slaughter of boys two years of age and under. Sadly, much of this story has continued throughout history. God does something interesting and wonderful, but religious leaders ignore it. A politician worries about losing power, and cares more about maintaining his status than the well-being of his subjects. Minions carry out brutal and evil orders. Some of the ideas for this text come from an Epiphany sermon preached by our pastor. The phrase, “Jerusalem Was Troubled” is from Matthew 2:3, “When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.” In addition to Matthew 2, other scriptures that are referenced are Jeremiah 31:15-17; John 1:1-14; 8:32 and 14:27.
