Although this is a jazz piece, it is written for Classical Musicians who want a blues piece to play. There is no improvisation in it, except where the performer can freely use all types of mutes - off or on. This piece represents my trip to New York to visit a musician friend. It has also been arranged for Euphonium. Although this piece is written in the Jazz style, there is no melodic, or note improvisation. Any improvisation is done in the sordino muted sections. The player can freely improvises mutes accordingly and decides whether mute on/off and duration of sordino note. At the beginning of the piece, I have given some indication as to how the mutes should be played, but the player is free to ad lib any of these sordino passages as he sees fit. The piece has three movements. A nocturne (from the French which meant nocturnal, from Latin nocturnus) is usually a musical composition that is inspired by, or evocative of, the night.
