Hugo Wolf is mainly known for his songs but he did compose two string quartets, this one entitled Italian Serenade composed in 1887 and his String quartet in D minor written in 1878. The Italian Serenade has also been orchestrated and from this stems the idea for a wind quintet realization.This was originally done by my father in 1951 and performed by the family wind quintet at Union College, Albany in about 1954. I have followed his transcription with some minor adaptations of my own.
