The first was held on February 20, 1816 at the Teatro Argentina in Rome but ended in boos from the audience loyal to Paisiello; The fiasco of the first was redeemed instantly by the success of replicas and Rossini’s work was soon to overshadow the previous Paisiello’s version, becoming today one of the world’s most representative works.
