This latest bossa nova asks for a written part from the rhythm section instruments. Some of the chords may be rather unfamiliar, in particular a form that includes both flatted and major sevenths. This is a variant on a voicing that Thelonious Monk, among others, has used, in which the fourth (or eleventh) is sounded a minor ninth above the major third. Ad lib cadenzas can be interpolated between the held chords at the end.

The piece is dedicated to master musician Steve Swallow, who was as generous and encouraging to me when I was a kid as it is humanly possible to be. He is every bit as wonderful a human being as he is a musician.

note: the MP3 is just a recording of a MIDI file, made with a decent sound card III/18: fixes a minor goof in the guitar part, and a serious mistake in the blowing section, score & parts
